STUDENT ESSENTIAL: EASY SPAGHETTI BOLOGNESE

September 22, 2016

So last week my little sister went off to university. A few days later I got a phone call off her to ask how long she needed to microwave pre-prepared spag bol for. This made me realise how much I took being able to cook at university for granted! As a student you don't have much spare cash but this easy meal can be frozen for a few days worth of home made ready meals, or stick a tin of beans and a couple of teaspoons of chopped chilli and paprika to turn it into an easy next day chilli!

Most of these ingredients are pretty easy to get hold of and once you have them in the cupboard they can be used to add a bunch of flavour easily to any meal. I like to shop in places like Aldi as you can't beat value for money!

 Ingredients

500g Mince meat (Beef, lamb or turkey its up to your preference!)
1 carton Pasata
2 tsp garlic puree (fresh or cheat and use a tube!)
2 tbsp Tomato Puree
2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 red onion finely chopped
dash of paprika
1 beef stock pot (oxo, knorrs or bits any works!)
salt and pepper for seasoning
Dried Spaghetti
2 tbsp Oil for frying

First of all get a decent size pan and whack your oil in. Heat up the oil and then add in the onions fry for 2-3 minutes then add the garlic fry for a minute more then add the mince meat. Add the paprika and then cook off till brown.

After this I like to drain some of the fat off, even if it's just a couple of tablespoons. Then add the tomato puree, stock pot, Worcestershire sauce and pasata. Give it a good stir and bring the heat down to a simmer.

Meanwhile, pop a pan of water on to boil, salt it well and add your pasta in. This takes about 8 minutes to cook. Keep stirring your sauce and add salt and pepper to season. Once your pasta has cooked, drain it, pile it all on a plate and tuck in!
